Coos Bay Day Trips

We base camped the RV in Coos Bay and used the funmobile to take various day trips tidepooling, hiking and just enjoying the views ( Sunset Beach, Simpson Gardens, Cape Arago and Bandon).

Simpson Gardens:

Of course Tracy's favorite view was the lumberjack competition (Paul, Tracy is expecting you to use these guys guns as inspiration).

Tomorrow we are moving on to spend two weeks with some of my family at Siltcoos Lake near Florence, OR. Expect some big fish pictures in the next blog!

Oregon Coast

We drove on 101 up the Oregon Coast from Gold Beach to our new base camp at Coos Bay. Basically it's view after view all the way. The 30+ mph crosswinds however kept us from getting too complacent. This was Tracy's first turn to drive and being the trooper she is, she went ahead. White knuckle the whole way but she did it!

Rogue River

Hi everyone,

We took delivery of the RV in Ashland, OR. We didn't play much but rather spent a few days mostly tying up loose ends and getting aquainted with the 33' monster ('er the RV one I mean). We'll be back in early August for the shakespeare festival anyway (note bike ride on bike path along bear river from Ashland to Medford looks cool). Then we headed to the Oregon coast for some fun.

First stop Gold Beach and the mouth of the Rogue River. Four Seasons RV resort has spaces right on the river with great views. Our favorite day was a 104 mile jet boat trip we took up the Rogue. We saw bear, river otter, deer, osprey, etc. It was beautiful and fun. Here's some pictures:

Beware of vicious animals!!

Tahoe

We started our extended vacation with a trip to our timeshare in Tahoe.

The picture on the left is from the Tahoe Rim Trail. This portion starts at about 9000 feet off Kingsbury Grade and ends at about 9000 feet at Spooner; 12 miles of gorgeous scenery with never more than a 10% grade. We've done it every year since we got the timeshare. You can get cell coverage the whole way so at the end you just call a cab and ask him to take you to Whisky Pete's. Whisky Pete's is a dive bar with a shuffleboard table, Fat Tire beer on tap and the best Pizza in Tahoe across the parking lot. Just ask the bartender for a large Mel's. She'll order one for you and they'll walk it over. A great end to a great day This year we also did a bike ride that I believe is destined to become another tradition. We rented a couple bikes on Ski Run and rode the South Lake Tahoe bike path to Beacon's restaurant on the beach at camp Richardson (about 8 miles each way) for a Rum Runner. Only have one or you'll never make the ride back!

Tracy wants me to also mention the great day we had at Kathy's Day Spa (1.5 hour massages for both of us + facial and salt rub for Tracy). I'm not sharing any pictures of that so here's another from the bike ride.

Big Boy Toys

Here's Home Sweet Home (Winnebago Adventurer 33V) with the funmobile (Pontiac Vibe) next to it. As you can see we've loaded the funmobile down with a couple bikes and a couple kayaks. That way we can leave the RV at base camp and take either or both with us on the funmobile to go play.
